Less than 50 pieces around the block
Seeing faster progress in getting to below 50 pieces of litter around the block.
Demoted or upgraded?
After eight weeks of weekly cleanups around this block in Capitol Hill, I am shifting to a daily cleanup frequency in an effort to strengthen the anti-littering norm.
Weekly cleanup condition
Block 1 is doing some strange things. I expected the number to hover around 200 or decrease, but since Week 4, it has been rising.
Adding a daily cleanup condition
Seven weeks in to my litter study, it seems clear that weekly cleanups have an impact on the amount of litter around the block. But with trash levels hovering around 200 pieces, the block still feels littered.
Picking up 10k+ pieces of litter in Denver
This past Tuesday, I surpassed picking up 10,000* pieces of litter in Denver’s Capitol Hill neighborhood.
Coding the blocks
There are 96 blocks in the Capitol Hill neighborhood. For this phase of the experiment, I am going to focus on cleaning two blocks (~2%), tracking each block separately, and limiting myself to weekly pickups. Starting on one corner, I will make my way fully around the block and count how many pieces of litter I collect.
